The teacher creates a cohesive learning environment with a firm foundation in the subject content through the usage of multiple representations that highlights central concepts and the tools used within these concepts. Teacher will use primary and supplementary resources and technologies to effectively engage and stimulate learners and to ensure all students can learn, practice, and master the academic content. I have included artifacts on two of my examinations, the VCLA and the PRAXIS in addition to a third artifact detailing my Hollins education of graduate and undergraduate coursework that has helped to prepare me and worked to satisfy the content standard.
Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment
In order to obtain my license, I studied for and completed the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA) with passing socres, exhibiting a proficiency in this content area. This examination assesses the teacher’s knowledge of the aspects of literacy including orthography, reading comprehension, and all other aspects of literacy.
Praxis Examination
In order to become a licensed teacher I completed the Praxis I & II examinations with passing scores, studying and reinforcing my knowledge in the applicable fields.
The Praxis I examination is an assessment of the teacher’s overall content knowledge, while the Praxis II for elementary educators consists of smaller subject area tests where the educator demonstrates their understanding of science, math, reading, and history content for elementary learners.
Hollins University Graduate & Undergraduate
I studied Education and English at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia. During my time at Hollins I achieved a Bachelor’s degree in English and a teaching license for PreK-6 as well as taking a number of courses in different disciplines. . Throughout my major courses for my English major I studied the various aspects of language which can be applied as greater concepts to elementary literacy. In my education courses I learned content specific skills in my teaching math, teaching science, language acquisition, and technology integration courses as I learned not only the content that I will be teaching to students but how to best present this content to students.
